About the BREEAM certification
At Lux Deco Blinds, we find that there is often a lack of clarity about the application of the BREEAM-NL assessment method to blinds and shades. BREEAM-NL, developed by the Dutch Green Building Council, is aimed at evaluating the sustainability of buildings and areas. It is important to emphasize that products such as blinds and light blinds themselves cannot be BREEAM-certified. This is because BREEAM-NL assesses complete buildings, not individual products.
Although products such as blinds, slats, Venetian blinds and pleated blinds cannot be certified individually, they can contribute to BREEAM-certified projects. To do so, the fabrics and materials chosen must meet the stated sustainability criteria, which helps achieve credits within the BREEAM certification process.
The origins of BREEAM lie with the English Building Research Establishment (BRE), while BREEAM-NL has been adapted to Dutch regulations and sustainability standards. For blinds, chapter HEA 3 is particularly relevant, which focuses on preventing light nuisance. Here there are specific requirements for light shading to earn a credit within the certification.
At Lux Deco Blinds, we are happy to advise you on the right blinds solutions for sustainable projects, taking into account BREEAM-NL's requirements for light shading and other sustainability aspects.
